Smarter is cleaner — lessons learned from the SCC1 smart city projects

Want to learn more about smart cities ? Join us in Brussels for the European Sustainable Energy Week.

The smart city project RUGGEDISED will take part alongside fellow Horizon 2020 projects, hosting together a joint policy session looking into the replication potential of smart solutions.

Coordinated by ICLEI, all nine Horizon 2020 smart city projects will host the policy session together in Brussels on 22 June 2017 from 4 to 5.30pm.

The session will focus on the replication potential of the energy-related smart solutions being implemented in the lighthouse cities. The aim of this joint event is to equip other cities with the know-how to replicate the processes and technological solutions already developed.

The session will look more closely at smart solutions along three topics: smart grids, smart electric storage and industrial to civic prosumers.

Roland van der Heijden from the city of Rotterdam will present one of the 32 smart city solutions implemented in RUGGEDISED: a 3-D City operations model.

India Advantage Summit

Following the visit of a Mumbai delegation to our Lighthouse city Rotterdam, our replication lead, ISINNOVA, has been invited to the India Smart Cities Conference on 21-22 September. They will present the replication approach used in RUGGEDISED, as well as the main goals of the project, and moderate a session addressing inter-city cooperation.

RUGGEDISED at the Nordic Edge Expo 2017

Join RUGGEDISED in the Nordic Edge Expo on September 26-28 in Stavanger, the largest Smart City event in the Nordics!

Find us on the 27th at the parallel session from 14:00-15:30: "Leading the Way to a Smart Future – Meet the New Lighthouse Cities!". RUGGEDISED will be presented by project coordinator Albert Engels, from the city of Rotterdam. Our two other Lighthouse cities, Glasgow and Umeå, will also present their smart city vision with Gavin Slater and Carina Aschan.

Representing our follower city of Brno, Jaroslav Kacer, Deputy Mayor, will take part in the debate "What Makes a Good Smart City", also on the 27th.

Smart Cities Information System (SCIS) final conference

RUGGEDISED will be present at the Smart Cities Information System (SCIS) final conference: "Empowering smart solutions for better cities", which will take place in Budapest (Hungary) from 2 - 3 October. The conference will provide a chance to meet with creative thinkers and decision-makers in urban planning, sustainable energy, mobility, ICT, smart business models, and user-centric innovation. One of the event’s primary objectives is to encourage the replication of solutions, good practices, and lessons learned among cities and businesses to drive forward a smart and sustainable vision of Europe.

Nordic Smart Cities Event
24 - 25 October 2017
Stockholm, Sweden

Margareta Rönngren, Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Umeå, will present the RUGGEDISED project during the second day of the Nordic Smart Cities event, on October 25.

The event, hosted at Stockholmsmässan will double in size for this third edition, expecting more than 400 attendees and including a great expo area dedicated to the very latest and smartest solutions. Nordic Smart Cities is the leading Nordic event for city development and also the meeting point for city representatives, elected officials and innovative solution providers.

Smart City Expo in Barcelona

RUGGEDISED will be present at the Smart City Expo in Barcelona. The 2017 edition of this leading world expo is entitled "Empower Cities. Empower People."

All nine Horizon 2020 smart city projects will have a stand together to showcase the work done in European projects on smart cities. Discussion sessions will be organised at the stand to talk about important topics faced by all cities working on smart solutions: Measuring smart cities performance, governance, citizen engagement, data management...

RUGGEDISED will be represented by Albert Engels, from the city of Rotterdam and project coordinator, as well as Carina Aschan from Lighthouse city Umeå. Brno, as follower city, will also be present.

SET Plan 2017
10th Year Anniversary of Central European Energy Conference 2017
29 November - 2 December 2017

SET Plan – Central European Energy Conference 2017 will bring together researchers and policy-makers from EU member states, particularly from Central Europe, and a range of stakeholders from international organizations, research organizations, businesses, municipalities and civil society to encourage open debate around key energy issues.

RUGGEDISED will take part in the Smart cities side-event on Wednesday 29 November, from 14:00 to 17:00. Our project coordinator, Albert Engels of the city of Rotterdam, will present an overview of the H2020 lighthouse programme as well as give examples of energy-related solutions developed in the RUGGEDISED project.
